8 Balla Hoop Insider caught up with incoming Ohio University freshman Torey James who shares what his experiences have been like thus far.

How has Ohio been thus far?

Ohio has been awesome so far, the coaches and teammates are like family already and there is always a positive vibe with everyone.

How does it feel to go from high school ball to D1 basketball?

It feels pretty great honestly knowing you’re playing at the highest level. But also knowing that everyone is either as good or better than you now, makes me extremely hungry to perfect my craft and have a consistent effort in every workout.

What did you learn while playing at Hickory High School that helped prep for Ohio?

What I learned at Hickory was how to adapt in diversity and being unselfish is one of the keys to success.

What goals do you have for your freshman year?

One of the biggest goals is just learning and soaking up everything possible I learn like a sponge. And improve everyday!

When did Ohio become interested in you?

Ohio became interested in early May!

How does the team look so far?

The team looks great! We have a lot of different talents on the team! We are very deep!

What did you work on during the off-season?

What I worked on this off-season just getting as much shots up as possible. Also just slowing down and making a lot of decisions of two feet.

How long have you played basketball?

I’ve played basketball for 13 years

Who are some of your biggest influences?

My family and doubters fuels my fire.

What do you plan to major in college?

I’m majoring in sports management

What do you see your self doing after basketball?

I see myself training and coaching kids when the ball stop bouncing for me myself. I’m addicted to the sport, I think sticking around the sport is the best for me and what I know.
