8 Balla Hoop Insider would like to highlight a few hoop programs that do things the right way here in NC. I have known coach Mike Wright for over 7 years now i asked him to sit down and talk about his program he has built from scratch.

How long has Liberty Heights been around?

This is our third season.

What made you start coaching after your playing days were over?

My playing days ended when I decided that I could have a greater impact with a coaching career by helping student athletes overcome some challenges I experienced as an athlete. 

How many kids have you helped move on to the college level?

Off the top of my head I would say I have help coach about 49 players to college level. 

What are some big games on this years schedule?

Four Big games on this years schedule includes Oak Hill, Huntington Prep, Legacy Charter, Aspire Academy... West Oaks. We will also be attending 12 events.

What are some of your core values?

My core values are teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship, perseverance and selflessness.

Kid you coached that really left a mark on you?

That’s a tough question because every kid I have coached we connected on a personal level which has left a mark on me in some way.

What does the game of basketball mean to you?

I have worked with the youth for over 15 years so, Basketball is one of my God given talents that gives me the platform to coach, mentor and the opportunity to personal develop young men.

Your thoughts on the direction that basketball is going at the youth level?

The direction of basketball is definitely evolving, which forces everyone to keep up with the changes.
