Catching up with 6'4 2020 Ford Cooper
One on One8 Balla Hoop Insider had the chance to cover 6'4 2020 PG Ford Cooper last season. He has steadily been on the rise since then. He is on the Travel Ball Circuit with Team Charlotte 17U and has posted some impressive stats. Averaging 10.5ppg 2.42rpg 4.25 apg while shooting 73% from the free throw line.
So Far how has your travel season been going now that high school ball is over for the year?
Playing for Team Charlotte in the Under Armour Association has been great. I am learning so much from Coach Jeff McInnis, and it is fun playing with some of the best players from the Charlotte area. I performed well in the first 3 sessions of UAA.
What aspects of your game will you focus on in the offseason?
My athleticism and getting my body stronger.
How is your current recruitment?
Recently I've had offers from Boston University, Missouri State, and 4 more Ivy League Schools have called, who are willing to push admission.
I have been in communication with Pacific University, Georgia State, Elon, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Xavier, Miami, and Arizona.
Has playing for Team Charlotte made you a better player?
Coach Jeff is teaching me how to become a better point guard and floor leader.
What are your goals the rest of travel ball season?
My personal goal is to continue to prove to the basketball world that I can compete against the best in the game. It is an uphill struggle because of my lack of a superior high school resume. In the 3 sessions of UAA, I finished in top 5 in 2 categories. In the July session I would like to add another top 5 finish.
My team goals are to be an even better point guard for Team Charlotte, and to help Team Charlotte win another Under Armour Championship in July.
Do you plan on going on any college visits?
Yes, I will take all five of my official visits. I will also take unofficial visits.
Favorite thing to do outside of basketball?
My favorite thing to do outside of basketball is to hang out with my family. I have a huge, crazy family. Any family function is a party!
How are your grades in school?
My exams are this week. I have been studying hard, but 11th grade is difficult. I am praying that my final GPA will be between a 3.5-3.7.
Why should a college coach recruit you? What are they getting?
A coach is getting a player who understands the game on both sides of the ball. A point guard who will always look for the easiest option/player to score. A point guard who loves learning more about basketball. A point guard who will continuously work hard on his game.
