The Future is bright for defending Private school state champs Carmel Christian
College Hoops8 Balla Hoop insider stopped by Carmel Chrisitian to see what the defending 2A Private school state champs are doing, now that they are 3A and have already come through the pipeline. We appreicate head coach Joe Badgett for inviting us to sit in on the open scrimmage.
I walked in the gym to see the new basketball facility that Carmel has built which is very nice. They had a few college coaches in attendance (Liberty,Gardner Webb, and Yale).
Here is who stood out and should be on college coaches radar:
6'6 2020 Myles Hunter is a talented wing transfer from Northmeck High school who will be an impact player day one for the Cougars. He displayed a nice touch on his jump shot and is a long slashing defender who I can see being a mid major talent.
6'6 2022 Jeremy Gregory is oozing with potential and talent. The younger brother of app state commit and Carmel Christian star Donovan Gregory has a bright future ahead. College coaches need to start tracking this young man soon. He is a force on the paint and with time will have a very nice skill set. He is strong for a freshman, so dont expect older guys to bully this young gun.
6'5 2022 Elijah Gray is another talented freshman on this team that will get many college looks due to the talent he brings to the court. He is strong and has a nice feel for the game and has great size and awareness. He can handle the ball and seems very mature for a freshman.
6'3 2022 Tyree Bracey is a knock down shooter who, with time will be in the conversation as one of top shooters in North Carolina. He also showed he could handle the ball and attack the basket. As he grows stronger and his body develops, one lucky college will be getting a big time scorer.
6'1 2022 Kyle Bean is a long slim slasher with a decent mid range jumper. He needs to get stronger to make the kind of impact he wants but the freshman has plenty time to work on that part of his game. We look forward to see how much he develops during the season.
6'4 2020 Kenny Gwynn has a strong body, rebounds well and attacks the basket well. You can tell he is working to develop his all around game and get better playing on the wing. Now he is a good athlete that will need to develop a more consistent jumper. I like what this young man brings to the table. He played on the squad that won a state title a year ago so he knows what its going to take to be successful.
6'4 2020 Ford Cooper is a baller that can pass and shoot very well. He has a very high basketball IQ and constantly found guys in good scoring situations. He was the target for the coaches to come see and they didnt leave disappointed. He showcases all aspects of his game and is poised yet again to chase a ring.
